Food for thought was a project for our Decoding Place class. For this assignment we were given copy all about food waste and asked to create a six panel, folded handout with the information given. I chose to mix illustration, photographs of fruit and vegetables, and my handwriting while creating this piece.
Originally I was stuck and started by taking photos of plates and placing the information on top of them. It wasn't the best approach. I then thought about other ways I could imply the plate without it having to be there. On a Saturday morning at a group photoshoot I started arranging the fruit and vegetables to create circles and semi-circles. Once back in studio I began exploring layering in illustrations and my own handwriting to give it a more personal, journal-like aesthetic.
Above is a view of what the handout looks like when it is printed and unfolded.
Below is a closer look at each panel.
